: almost struck down

wow, i got backed into by a car yesterday. yes, a woman literally backed out of a parking stall at the rocky hill post office directly into my right leg. i had a split second to react and kinda jumped out of the way, but she hit me pretty solid. the only thing that stopped her was me slamming my hands down on the trunk. most people turn their head and look when they're backing out, this old gal just hit the gas and went for it. she was parked beside a huge van so i can see how she didn't see me coming, but still, drive with caution when there are always pedestrians in the lot. the woman got out of her car and nearly had a heart attack. she wanted to call the police or an ambulance and give me here insurance info, but i refused. my leg hurt a bit, but after all the bike crashes i've been through it was nothing at all...a minor bruise maybe. what really got me heated was some old guy (i mean old!) who witnessed the ordeal and had the nerve to get out his car and say, "you should of been on the sidewalk." thanks gramps, there are no sidewalks on the left side of the parking lot, you have to cross the driveway to get to the post office. i hate backing down so i pointed to 4 other people walking across the parking lot and blasted the old man with, "are you going to tell them to get on the sidewalk too!" he gave me a geriatric death glare and got back in his car lost for words. the woman, still in a tizzy, apologized profusely, still asking if i needed to see a doctor. i told her i was sure i was fine and had to get back to work, ending the whole ordeal. what a lunch break!!!
